A Choir Tour three years in the making… Tonight, 106 Salem Hills High School Choir students and another 50 or so of their parents will depart for their first Choir Tour since 2019, to New York City. While there, they will be performing in several different venues, including the historic and prestigious Carnegie Hall.

We had a remarkable showing by Salem Hills Instrumental Music Students tonight at the Region 9 Instrumental Solo & Ensemble Festival.

As part of the curriculum in the Band and Orchestra classes taught at Salem Hills, students learn contest solos, duets, trios and other various combinations to perform in front of adjudicators. This year, Salem Hills had a total of 32 Festival entries, all of which received Excellent ratings or better. 9 of these entries qualified for the UHSAA State Solo & Ensemble Festival!

These State qualifiers include:

- Salem Hills Percussion Ensemble

- Salem Hills Chamber Percussion

- Avery Allred (Violin Solo)

- Carley Bradshaw (Violin Solo)

- Bridger Saunders (Tuba Solo)

- Cameron Kaletta (Trumpet Solo)

- Jackson Wheelwright (Trumpet Solo)

- Collin Hawkins (Cello Solo)

- Salem Hills String Duet (Avery and David)

Congratulations are certainly in order for these Instrumental Music students at Salem Hills! Thank you for your support of our students!

FFA State Convention

The Salem Hills FFA got to go to an in-person state convention on March 10th and the 11th. It was good to be able to attend in-person convection because the last 2 have been virtual. It was the first in-person State FFA Convention that our 27 students have ever been to. They enjoyed awards ceremonies, keynote speakers, workshops, and interacting with other FFA students throughout the state. It was nice to be back in the sea of blue corduroy jackets. Some major highlights are the National FFA Advisor, James Woodard, came and actually sat with our FFA chapter for one of the sessions. Another Highlight was Greg Peterson from the youtube channel Peterson farm Bros who spoke to the students about being an agricultural advocate. (video of my favorite video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMOe5VtW5uo)

Highlights of the Convention
Marc Yoder won 1st in the Employment Skills Leadership Development Event and has qualified to attend the National FFA Convention this coming October.
Jentry Downard took 2nd place in her Agricultural Education Career Development Event.
