Keep a list of people you can use as references for scholarships.
Attend scholarship/financial aid workshops in your community.

Keep copies of all essays and letters of recommendations written and re-use them.
Get an internship or part-time job. Try to work in the field of interest you plan on for a career. You can view internships available to SHHS students at: here
Make copies of all application materials.
Send off applications well before the deadline.

Methods for obtaining scholarships
Method 1- University/College
Scholarships primarily come from institutions. In many cases when applying for college admissions, you are also applying for scholarships. Some schools require two different applications for admissions and scholarships. Check the school’s website for information, and a list of scholarships offered. Universities and colleges offer scholarships for academic s, department, talent, athletic, financial aid, etc…
Method 2- State-funded
State offers various scholarships. Some of the most popular scholarships include Regents, New Century, Centennial, Robert C. Byrd, and CTE to name a few. Check the SHHS counseling website for more information.
Method 3- Local and National
These scholarships can vary tremendously. Businesses, individuals, non-profit organizations offer them. Students must simply meet the eligibility requirements to apply. There are more than 200 national and local scholarships listed on the SHHS counseling website.
Method 4- Heritage
Scholarships are offered to students who are diverse in their ethnicity, physical abilities, and economic backgrounds. Please visit the scholarship link above and for more information.
Method 5- Military
Each division of the military provides opportunities for scholarships.
