"I stuck my head out the window this morning and spring kissed me bang in the face." --Langston Hughes

Spring in Utah will kiss you and hit you in many ways, and today it seems to be playing its typical April Fool's joke on us where it gives us a huge dose of winter for a bit. Oh well, spring's winter usually only lasts for a day, if that, at least that's what I'm hoping for.

Speaking of hopes, I hope your spring break was restful and rejuvenating and helped you get your second wind because we'll need it for this final race down the stretch of the school year. Whether this year's finish line is graduation or the completion of a sophomore or junior year, it's sure to contain many memory making moments. Let's work hard and enjoy this final sprint!

Have a great week and GO SKYHAWKS!

Skyhawk Highlights:

SHHS Girls' Golf: Our girls have played in 3 matches so far this year.  They've played in a 9-hole match at Fox Hollow GC, an 18-hole match at East Bay in Provo, and a 9-hole match at Nephi GC.  This year's team includes Dacia Johnson, Sariah Lee, Jenna Dey, Brooke Terry, and Mallory Hanks, and they have been competing well this year in a strong region. They next play on April 20 at the Spanish Oaks GC. Good luck ladies!

Fairchild Challenge Global Competition: Four of our student are finalists in the Fairchild Challenge Global Competition: Devri Adams, Audrey Barney, Sydney Shuler, and Olivia Trent. The competition requires students to submit a drawing of "Plants and Pollinators". We wish these students good luck with the final selections.

SHHS Track and Field: The Salem Hills Track Team continued its successful season last week at the Juab Invitational.  Both the boys' and girls' teams won the team titles defeating the 10 other schools present!  Great Job Skyhawks!  Congratulations to Coulson Boggess for breaking the school record in the 100 meters and RJ Lundberg for breaking the school record in the 1600 meters!

Reflections Display: Two of our students will have their Reflections entries displayed this summer at the Leonardo Museum in Salt Lake City: Kennedy Merrill (3-D Art) and Hailey Boggess (Music/Piano Competition). Congratulations to these talented students!

Dillard's and 17 Magazine's Polished Prom Contest: Sierra Draper a junior here at SHHS won the Dillard's and 17 Magazine's Polished Prom Contest. She won $3000 in clothing at Dillard's, professional hair and makeup for five friends, limousine service to and from the prom, swag bags for six, the services of a professional photographer throughout the night, a cover photo for the magazine, and an article about our school which will appear in the magazine. Congratulations to Sierra for being the lucky winner of the contest, and we look forward to the coverage the magazine gives Sierra and our school.

SHHS Baseball: The boys' baseball team had a great week last week, defeating Wasatch HS on back-to-back days by scores of 13-3 and 12-3. Last night (4/14) they battled Spanish Fork HS and gusting winds and rain to win in thrilling fashion, scoring five runs in the top of the 7th inning to take a 9-5 lead which would hold in bottom of the seventh for the win. They play traditional region power Spanish Fork HS again on Thursday (4/16) here at SHHS at 3:30 PM.

SHHS Boys' Soccer: The boys are coming off of a win against Payson HS last night by a score of 1-0, and like our other teams, they had to battle the elements as much as the Lions. They also had a win last week against Springville HS (2-1) and a loss against Wasatch HS (4-2). They next play against Provo HS on Thursday (4/16) at 4:00 PM.

SHHS Softball: The ladies played very well in the Payson Invitational over the weekend winning games against Brighton, Cyprus, and Grand High Schools. The ladies also won in thrilling fashion late in their game yesterday (4/14). With the score tied at 8-8 and the bases loaded, Abbie Tuttle hit a walk-off single to secure the win. The team next plays on Thursday (4/16) versus Spanish Fork HS in Spanish Fork.
