Next week is our spring break, and I think all of us can relate a little to what Mark Twain was talking about when he spoke of "spring fever." Our hope is that the break helps you find a portion of what your heart is aching for, whether it's an adventure, time with family and friends, rest and relaxation, or a little of each. We hope you have a fabulous break and come back recharged, energized, and ready to finish the 2014-2015 school year strong!

Skyhawk Highlights:
SHHS Track and Field: Congratulations again to the Skyhawk Track team on another great meet over the weekend! They competed at the UVU Invitational against 28 schools from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and California. The Men's team finished in 7th place overall, and the Women's team continued their undefeated season by finishing 1st place overall! Great job Skyhawks!
This team continues to set and break records (sometimes their own)! RJ Lundberg broke his own record in the 2 mile run with a time of 9:33. Haley Johnston broke her own record in the 2 mile run with a time of 11:24. The girls 4x100 Relay team (Ashlyn Bradley, Amber Edmondson, Kaylie Adams and Paige Simmons) broke their own school record with a time of 49.64. Also, we failed to recognize Devin Minson last week for breaking the school record in the 300 Hurdles with a time of 41.61 in a meet at Provo HS.
The track team's next meet is today (3/31) here at Salem Hills HS against Timpview and Spanish Fork. Come out and support our awesome team!
SHHS 2015 Knowledge Bowl Champions: The champions of this year's SHHS Knowledge Bowl were Alyson Jardine, Caleb Sly, Jenna Rhodes, Mike Abbott, and Sam Lofthouse. Their intellect and wit were on full display as they defeated each round's competitors to claim the annual Knowledge Bowl Title, their champions hoodies, the annual Tucano's lunch, and of course bragging rights! Congratulations to this intellectually gifted group!
SHHS Skyhawks of the Month: This month's outstanding students were selected by our school's trade and technical department teachers and were selected for their outstanding character and work ethic. The students who most embody SHHS Spirit, Heart, Honor, and Success this month include Darby Thomas (selected by the student council), Grant Gunderson (selected by Mr. Neves), Stephanie Jones, (selected by Mr. Andrews), Logen Preece (selected by Mr. Andrus), Tyler Butler (selected by Mr. Wilson), and Mariah Manookin (selected by Mr. Williams). Congratulations to these outstanding students!
SHHS Boys' Tennis: The boys tennis team had one of their best tournaments to date over the weekend in the St. George Invitational (3/24-3/25). In the top bracket Sven Jamsa and Dallin McCarthy finished in 3rd place at #1 doubles. Nick Trotter and Levi Ward also finished in 3rd place at #2 doubles. Kyle Alldredge had a very good tournament at 3rd singles finishing in 4th place in the top bracket.
SHHS Baseball: After defeating Springville HS in their previous two matchups, within five days, our Skyhawks dropped an 8-5 decision on Thursday night to go 2-1 with the Red Devils in a six-day stretch. They next play here against Timpview HS this afternoon (3/31) at 3:30 PM and at Timpview HS on Thursday (4/2) at 3:30 PM.
SHHS Girls' Basketball: Tiffany Madson, Jane Nelson, and Lauren Gustin were named to the All-Valley Team by the Daily Herald, and Sadie Lundquist was given Honorable Mention. Tiffany Madson was also named the Region VIII MVP. Jane Nelson was awarded All-Region First Team, and Lauren Gustin was given All-Region Second Team. Hailee Hodgson, Daleen Lundquist, Abbie Tuttle, and Sadie Lundquist were each honorable mention for the region. Tiffany Madson, Daleen Lundquist, and Ashlyn Bradley were also recognized as Academic All-Region. Congratulations ladies on these well deserved basketball and academic honors!
SHHS Boys' Soccer: Our team survived a fiercely contested match against Spanish Fork HS on Thursday night by a score of 3-2. Most the scoring occurred early with SHHS scoring the first two goals and SFHS quickly responding with two goals of their own. The match was a stalemate until SHHS scored a late goal for the win. The team next plays this week at home against Spingville HS today (3/31) at 4:00 PM and at Wasatch HS on Thursday (4/2) at 4:00 PM.
SHHS Boys' Basketball: Congratualtions to Jeff DeGraffenried and Porter Gustin for being named to the 2015 All-Valley Basketball Team and to Parker Barton for receiving All-Valley Honorable Mention by the Daily Herald. Jeff DeGraffenried and Porter Gustin also received All-Region honors, and Porter Gustin was named 3rd Team All-Sate. Congratulations to these players!
SHHS Softball: The girls' softball team next competes today (3/31) at Maple Mountain HS at 3:30 PM. Come and support the ladies as they look to continue their winning ways.
Skyhawk Happenings:
- The Region VIII Orchestra competition will be held here at SHHS beginning at 3:00 PM on Wednesday (4/1).
- Student council elections will conclude this week on April 3.
- Football spring workouts will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings starting at 5:30 PM in the SHHS weight room.
- Next week (4/6 - 4/10) is Spring Break. Enjoy the sunshine!
- All junior boys with the zip code of 84651 and 84660 interested in government, political science and/or how our system of government and judicial system works should stop by the counseling office and pick up a Boys State application. Boys State is scheduled for June 8 through June 12, 2015 at Weber State University in Ogden. Boys will receive three hours of university credit upon completion of Boys State. Credits are generally transferable to any state funded university. Those participating will need to provide their own transportation and $100.00. The rest of the registration fee will be paid by the American Legion. Deadlines for applications are April 15 for 84660 zip codes and May 5 for 84651 zip codes.
- The counseling department would like to know about scholarships awarded to any SHHS student, even if the scholarship is not accepted. The counselors would like to recognize all those who have been offered scholarships at our awards assembly at the end of the year.
- Tabatha's Way is a local charitable organization that will be placing a clothing collection bin in our parking lot. According to statistics provided by Tabitha's Way, every 600 lbs. of clothing they collect can be used to generate the resources necessary to feeds a needful family of four for a week. So look for the Tabatha's Way clothing bin if you wish to donate; for more information you can go to their website at www.tabithasway.org
- Detention will be held before school, during lunch, and after school in room C207 with Ms. Houghton and before school with Mr. Schwenke (weight room).
