The Salem hills high school wrestling team topped off their season by placing four people in the top six at the state tournament. Derek mangleson 2nd, Dallin Gividen 4th Craig Finelay 6th and Chase Wilson 6th Prior to this year, the Skyhawks had only placed four people in state in there first two years of existence. “Placing four at state this year was a great accomplishment for the team.” Said head coach TJ Brindly. Since the team was consecutively ranked in the top ten in the state it was not easy to do so. “Region eight is a really tough region for wrestling,” said senior 171 pounder J.T. Atkinson. Payson, Maple Mountain, Springville, and Uintah all have strong wrestling programs. The team did well to get a leg up in region despite the difficulty. Although Graduating 16 seniors will be a hard hit to take, next year the underclassmen as well as coach Brindly are optimistic for next year. “We have one of the best JV teams in the state,” said Brindly, “ The underclassmen are ready to step up to help make a great team next year.” Along with many new faces next year the wrestling as well as all other Salem sports teams will be a force to be reckoned with in an entirely new region. With a lot of new faces and new teams, fans have a very exciting year to look forward to.
