Day dawns on another great day at SHHS. 98.36 KB

Thomas Jefferson said, "Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day." We've had some really cool sunrises lately, and I was able to take a picture of a particularly awesome one last week. However, as is usually the case, my picture didn't come near to doing the sunrise justice. It did, though, serve to get me thinking about the quote I included in this week's newsletter and how the dawn of day gives us new life and hope.

As we begin a new and final term of the year, I hope the experiences your student(s) is (are) having here at Salem Hills High School are helping them gain the enlightenment and understanding they will draw from in future days to overcome the "tyranny" and "oppressions" of "mind" that they face.  It is our sincere hope as a faculty and staff that your student's days dawn with spirit, heart, honor, and success that they've learned, and continue to learn, here at Salem Hills High School.

Skyhawk Highlights:

SHHS Debate: Our school's debate team finished in 4th place at the state debate recently; this is the highest that our team has ever placed. Coach Welton is proud of his team and the progress they continue to make from year to year. Congratulations to our SHHS debate team!

SHHS Baseball: The boys played in the Snow Canyon Tournament in St. George over the weekend, defeating Westlake HS and Lone Peak on Friday (3/20), and Riverton HS on Saturday (3/21). They defeated region competitor Springville HS in the tournament championship. They followed up their tournament win by defeating the Red Devils again last night by a score of 5-2.

SHHS Drama: The Drama III class competed in the region one-act play and individual events over the past couple of weeks. They took 3rd in the one-act play event, and the following students qualified for state in individual events: Isabel Truax, Beth Mitchell, and KC Johnson - Straight superiors in Musical Theatre; Richard Call - Pantomime; Brayden Kane - Dramatic Monologue; Ammon Flint - Straight superiors in Dramatic Monologue. Congratulations to these students and good luck at state!

SHHS Boys' Soccer: The boys had a good week on the pitch last week. They lost a close game with Provo HS last Tuesday 1-0 but bounced back with an awesome win against Timpview HS on Thursday (3/19). They played Maple Mountain HS tough last night before falling to the Golden Eagles by a score of 4-0. The team next plays Spanish Fork HS on Thursday (3/26) at 4:00 PM.

SHHS Softball: The ladies got back to their winning ways by defeating Timpview HS last night by a score of 15-3. Next up, the ladies will play at Maple Mountain HS next Tuesday (3/31) at 3:30 PM.

SHHS Track and Field: The track team had an outstanding performance at the  Cougar Relays at Kearns HS on March 13 and 14! Scoring was determined by combining the men's and women's team scores to determine an overall "Team Champion."  Our SHHS track and field team won the meet with 294 points; our closest competitor, the 2nd place team, scored 180 points.  Our team won 16 events and broke 8 meet records! The teams have had a great year so far and next will compete at Maple Mountain HS on Friday (3/27) at 3:30 PM and on Saturday (3/28) at UVU.
