"A good leader can engage in a debate frankly and thoroughly, knowing that at the end he and the other side must be closer, and thus emerge stronger. You don't have that idea when you are arrogant, superficial, and uninformed." --Nelson Mandella

I came across this quote recently, and it coincided nicely with our debate team winning their sixth consecutive region debate title. This quote also gave me pause to reflect on our school, our faculty, and staff and the impact they are having on our students. I am proud to work at SHHS and associate with colleagues who, to borrow from the ideas of Mandella's quote, prioritize student learning and teach our students the importance of putting aside arrogance, overcoming superficial behavior, and ensuring our students are not uninformed or ignorant, be it in preparation for a debate or not.

Thanks to all those who participated and gave us a solid week of entertainment, especially FCCLA for their excellent job sponsoring the overall event.
