Salem Hills High School PTSA Newsletter/October 2015

President’s Message

We’ve had a great start to our school year at Salem Hills High School!  Our PTSA has been busy and would like to thank all who have volunteered.  We started with an awesome Parent Pep-Rally after Sophomore Orientation.  Thanks to the Student Council, Cheer Squad, and Mr. Peery for participating and getting us excited about volunteering at our school.  We have helped with the pancake breakfast the first week of school, taking tickets for the Stomp’s, passing out schedules and report cards, working at the book fair, providing dinner for the teachers during SEP’s, treats for teachers on Munchie Mondays, help with our school night fundraiser at Culver’s, and more!  We couldn’t do all of this without the support of the great parents and students we have at Salem Hills High School.

There are many more opportunities to serve our school this year, and I hope if you haven’t yet, you will take the time to visit our website at www.shhsptsa.com and fill out our volunteer form.  Also, if you would like to become a paid member, you may pay through PayPal on our website (we are not allowed to take payments to the PTA through the school) or contact a board member.  All members receive a membership discount card.  One of the items on the card is free artisan bread at Stokes with a $25 purchase that you can use 3 times!  That’s $12 worth of bread that you get just for paying a $6 membership fee – not to mention all the other discounts you receive.  Stronger membership numbers show stronger support for our school at the state and national levels.  Again, a big thank you to all who volunteer in any way at Salem Hills!  Go Skyhawks!

Munchie Mondays

We've had an excellent start this year with our Teacher Appreciation which started with a light breakfast served the first day of school, thanks to the board and many hands making that possible. We've teamed up with Stokes this year to give the faculty a 5" chocolate cake or over-sized mint brownie for birthdays. We've had an overwhelming response of gratitude from the faculty, and we've only just begun!!!

Lastly, we've also launched into Munchie Mondays which is something we and parent volunteers do every other Monday to help bring some good cheer (treats) to the faculty who are so deserving of knowing how much we appreciate them weekly. We'd like to thank those of you who have already signed up to help. This is a HUGE endeavor to pull off each year and only through our parent volunteers is this possible. We'd like to thank Jayne Clare, Haley Stiles, Lauring Jack, Connie Sokol, Karen Weight and Ronda Slater who have already provided treats this year. If YOU want to be a part of the fun in providing faculty with treats or if you have more questions about what specifically we do, you can email Jileen Meservy at jil [at] mcreative.biz (jil[at]mcreative[dot]biz)  or go onto our PTSA website and sign up on Genius.

Book Fair

Thank you to everybody who helped support our book fair! We were able to reach 77% of our goal at $1350! We were able to give the faculty and staff $325 and the Hope Squad $177 in books and merchandise from the book fair! We would also like to thank the many people who helped at our book fair- Therese Lauritzen, Laurine Jack, Heather Hansbrow, Heather Abbott, Lisa Horton, Lynn Richardson, Angela Rogers, Tancy Eyre, Janae Oveson, and Shannon Badger.

Our next book fair will be held April 25-29, 2016 and will be our Buy-One-Get-One Free fair!!

Added thanks to:

Kirk Rogers, Mike and Ronda Slater, Ivan and Stephanie Ashcraft, Ken Meads, Lisa Draper, Candy Martin, Lynn Richardson, Jileen Messervy, Tracy Cowley, Linda Jones, Heather Hansbrow, Tancy Eyre, Therese Lauritzen, Audrey Gardner and students: Madeline Stocks, Madeline Morris, Kyla Rogers, Linda Taeger, Kai Hendri, Lexi Hansbrow, Devan Ashcraft for all their help so far this year.
