Homecoming week was a huge success this year. For everyone at the school, the week was kicked off by simply walking through the doors Monday morning. The student council spent countless hours in an effort to completely change the interior of the school. The theme for the week came from the classic movie, “The Wizard of Oz.” As students and staff entered the building they were greeted by yellow brick roads, enchanted forests, tin men with no hearts, lions with no courage, scarecrows with no brains, wicked witches with flying monkeys, and the centerpiece of it all—Dorothy and Toto. One sign read, “We definitely aren’t in Kansas anymore.” And, based on the way the school looked, many thought they weren’t at Salem Hills anymore!

The rest of the week was marked with a variety of different activities. Students were able to participate in a car smash, powder puff football, and learning new dance moves. Of course, who could forget the amazingly talented Man Shave dance squad?  The football team made some great plays and hung in there in a closely contested game with some controversial calls, but came up just short when momentum shifted against them at the end of the game. The week was capped off with the homecoming dance of Saturday night. Students had a blast, and they were able to showcase their patented dance skills. Overall, it was a very memorable, fun-filled week.
